Judge's comments:
He iti te kupu, he nui te kōrero.
The word is small, the meaning is great.
‘Kupu’ puts the power of te reo Māori, the Māori language, in your hands, enabling you to learn ‘kupu’, words, for the every day things around you.
The judges were impressed by this innovative project combining Māori language with machine learning to allow users to discover Māori words for the every day things around them, with the simple click of a button on your mobile device with a camera.
The project required wide and complex collaboration between Māori language and technology experts, to ultimately deliver something easy to use that puts the power of te reo at your fingertips, to be used in your own place at your own pace.
