Description:

The new home for the Trustpower Generation business - Manawa Energy - is situated at 93 Cameron Rd in the heart of Tauranga Moana, neighbouring the Wharepai Domain.

This new workplace builds on the great outcomes and working practices the team has developed and refined at Trustpower, whilst looking forward as New Zealand’s 5th Largest power generator to opportunities to develop renewable power generation and a move towards a decarbonised future.

The layout and variety of spaces throughout provide users with a range of locations that allow them to carry out their daily tasks, connecting & collaborating with colleagues within the Tauranga office and across New Zealand. Manawa desired to create an environment that fostered an "office first' culture, with the choice and often default of working from home their ambition was to provide a workplace environment that enables and supports people to work effectively alone or with others who may be physically in the same place or not, but that encouraged people to come to the office as a preferred place of work. This meant ensuring that all spaces functioned in a hybrid way, for teams and individuals. As well as providing great spaces for teams to come together.

The name ‘Manawa’ meaning ‘heart’ was gifted by local hapu Ngāti Hangarau. It speaks to the heart of our operations, the Kaimai Power scheme; and is a nod to our shared whakapapa with Ngāti Hangarau to the Omanawa River. The location of the new building is situated in the Ngāi Tamarāwaho rohe and the world view of both of these Ngāti Ranginui iwi will be brought together to inform the design elements of the space for Manawa Energy. The supporting "brand story" comes from the heart of what they do and is deeply connected to the natural environment, their role as Kaitiaki, and the importance of listening to the sounds of the environment to guide them into the future. It is these sentiments that resonated with the design team to translate into a workplace environment that supports the wellbeing of Manawa Energy staff and the work they do providing renewable energy for our sustainable future.

Overall, the new Tauranga HQ for Manawa seeks to reflect, demonstrate, and embed the key Manawa Energy brand attributes

It's a space that resonates, tells a story, and is respectful to all involved in the design phase, and all who will experience & occupy it in the future.
