Situated in the heart of Sydenham, this new studio space has been renovated from a former empty warehouse into a vibrant and welcoming workspace Threefold affectionately call a "home away from home." This ambitious renovation project not only revitalized the building but also created a shared hub with tenants Addy & Lou (Homeware & Furniture), Little Battersea (Café), and A Little Bit Floral (Florist), fostering a thriving community space.
Central to the project was the concept of social currency, reflecting Threefold's deep commitment to their team and surrounding community. The goal was to craft an environment that balances professional functionality with the comforts of home, ensuring a inspiring work atmosphere. This project was not just about renovating a building but about imbuing it with a soul – a place where design meets functionality to elevate both creativity and wellness.
Each space was meticulously crafted – telling a story and maximising the favoured natural and raw materials. The exterior design establishes the ambiance for what lies within. By blending fluted masonry bricks, glazing, cedar, and corten steel accents, a harmonious fusion of raw industrial aesthetics and warmth is achieved. This combination welcomes clients, family, and friends into a space that feels professional while still inviting and homely.
The program and required narrative led to the creation of several key features, including a north facing fully equipped kitchen and social space promoting subconscious congregation, a private phone booth providing a quiet space for focused conversations or moments of solitude, and a discreet access point to a future loft space. These elements make the space highly functional while maintaining visual appeal.
The studio’s interior utilised Floc panels made from 100% New Zealand wool, complemented by timber panelling and render, to enhance acoustic comfort and infuse the space with textural warmth. Soho aluminium glazed partitions offer a seamless balance, providing separation while maintaining privacy and visual connection.
The bathrooms are meticulously designed, each imbued with its own distinct personality through thoughtfully curated colour palettes of tiles, hardware, trims, and paint. These elements blend seamlessly, creating a cohesive and visually engaging experience.
This project for Threefold Architecture showcases commitment to harmoniously blending practicality, aesthetic appeal, and community connectivity, setting a new precedent for dynamic and inspiring workplaces in Sydenham.
