Description:

UDC Finance’s new workplace at 50 Albert Street in Auckland stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of New Zealand’s rich agricultural heritage and innovative workplace design. This relocation marks a bold stride forward for UDC, a company with a legacy of over 85 years, deeply rooted in supporting key sectors of New Zealand’s economy such as transport, forestry, agriculture and manufacturing.

The ethos of UDC Finance is vividly embodied in the new office, where every design element reflects its connection to New Zealand’s land and economic history. Emphasising a deep respect for cultural and environmental sustainability, the workspace has been meticulously crafted within the parameters of a 6 Star Green Star-rated building. This honours UDC’s commitment to a low-carbon future, paving the way for sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.

Inspiration drawn from New Zealand's landscape is evident in thematic spaces cleverly divided into "The Greenhouse," "The Sheds," "The Yards," and the open plan "Fields." These areas symbolically and physically represent growth, community, collaboration and adaptability. The careful integration of vernacular agricultural materials like iron, timber and metal cladding underscores UDC’s dedication to authenticity, innovation, and resourcefulness, while enhancing the workplace’s aesthetic and functional appeal.

Central to the design is the ‘town hall’ – a vibrant front-of-house social area designed to foster community engagement and collaboration. This hub not only encourages employee interaction but also reinforces UDC’s brand identity as a cornerstone of New Zealand’s financial landscape. The strategic layout, with flexible open-plan zones and enclosed spaces, caters to diverse working styles, supporting both individual focus and team collaboration.

UDC’s innovative approach to workspace design goes beyond operational requirements; it serves as an architectural narrative that portrays the company’s values and aspirations. By embedding New Zealand’s cultural narrative within a contemporary business setting, UDC extends an open invitation for both employees and clients to engage with a space that is uniquely reflective of Aotearoa’s spirit.

This project enhances UDC’s brand presence while embodying its mission. The design of the UDC Finance headquarters offers a working experience that is deeply connected to both the legacy and future ambitions of the company, celebrating its past achievements while embracing innovative pathways for the future.
