A large, dated 80’s apartment was stripped and made over, with a complete re-plan and refurbishment. City and sea views were reallocated to living and bedroom spaces respectively; the buzz of the city for socialising; the calm of the sea for retreating. A sense of entry was created with a defined, elegant and welcoming lobby space. Views and sunlight were analysed and brought into the apartment with better planning and spatial design for every room, to avoid the previously closed-in and slightly claustrophobic feeling the apartment had. Plenty of storage was added throughout and clear spatial boundaries were set up between all the bedrooms, allowing multi generations to have their own sense of space and privacy. Materials were kept to a reduced and consistent pallet throughout, carefully selected to enhance a sense of refuge and quiet warmth. Main finishes were stained oak veneer, travertine tiles, Corian and natural stone tops, and brass fixtures and detailing. Subtle brass highlights and blush pink fittings add a sense of charm and surprise. Ceilings were pushed up into inter-floor structural space to optimise height and space, and delineate living areas. Cabinetry was carefully designed throughout the apartment to allow for plenty of storage, divide open plan spaces and add warmth to the interior. Fine details added luxury and refinement, from handle-less cabinetry to brass inlaid flooring trims. The project was highly successful in fulfilling the clients' aspirations for the apartment; the views to the harbour and city, the lightness of the spaces, and the warmth of the materials and finishes, celebrate the apartment's location and elevation above the city, and make every day living simply more inspiring.
