Description:
Te Runanga o Kaikoura in partnership with Waka Kotahi, Kiwi Rail and the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR), led a team of creatives, artists and designers to produce artwork connecting purakau and whakapapa into the landscape of Kaikoura after the 2016 earthquakes.
The Cultural Arts Package consists of 4 pou whenua, 10 stopping sites and 11 largescale murals sandblasted and laser cut into corten steel, created and designed by teams of artists, designers, carvers and technicians working over two and a half years.
The Cultural Art Package - Te Waiatatanga Mai o Ngā Atua is the korowai on top of the coastal rebuild, acknowledging Ngāti Kuri as mana whenua and the feat of engineering achieved through collaboration and partnership.
