Cream Eatery is relaxed, unexpected, and just a little bit fancy. Our client dreamed of a bustling and vibrant eatery that could add life and personality to Hamilton’s CBD. A contrasting balance of the familiar and extraordinary, Cream has quickly established itself as the friendly and fresh go-to-spot.
Proprietors Chrissy and Luke bring two distinct angles to their work, with Chrissy as the queen of cakes and sweet treats, and Luke with his famous fried eggs and passion for big flavour in his savoury offerings. Colour, form and finish choices were chosen to reflect both the contrasting and complementary nature of their different skills.
The aesthetic of Cream Eatery is balanced on a strong spatial expression of the brand story and the context of the 1950’s corner site building it’s located in. We utilized bold and delicate contrasts throughout the fit out and slightly offbeat but inviting colours to give a sense of personality and friendliness. The client desired a strong connection to the lobby of the deco inspired co-working venue adjacent, and so floor tiles, large windows, lighting and colour tones were bled from one space to the other to create a sense of flow and direction for customers.
The fitout and brand were developed synonymously, presenting an excellent opportunity to express the brand across various mediums in store. Colour and shapes found within the brand were mirrored throughout the interior and custom furniture and joinery were designed specifically with the brand’s unique character in mind.
The result is a fresh and inviting interior that feels modern and unexpected. The space reveals the original architectural structure and formwork and connects neatly with their co-working neighbours.
The balance of old and new reopens the eyes of Hamilton’s CBD dwellers to look more closely and celebrate the city we have.
