The palette for Two Barns was derived in response to its seasons and surroundings in the ochre coloured Cardrona Valley where dark Matagouri and golden tussock flourish. The valley provides an ever-changing seasonal backdrop from the snows of winter through the spring and summer green to the golden hues of autumn.
On arrival the dark stained barns with cedar shutters and doors nestle into the tussock surrounds. Through the entry and into the lean to that connects the barns, the dark stained exterior finishes continue and are completed with the golden texture of the local Clutha Stone floors and cedar joinery.
The large living space reflects the ochre of the valley and with the addition of a texture to the walls provides a welcoming, relaxed living space. Fumed oak floors and dark stained beams and joinery create a backdrop for jewel like moments in joinery and artwork. Leathered Negresco stone counters and blackened steel, hardware and tapware provide a continuity of detail through all areas of the home.
Continuing the traditional detailing of board and batten detail through passages and bedrooms, a lighter palette supports the smaller spaces.
The bunkroom is timber lined, warm and inviting. Leading up the darkened moody stairwell, many a wintry afternoon and evening can be spent in the darkened media room.
The master bedroom provides a quiet secluded space with jewelled accents in finishes and furnishings.
