Judge's comments:

Simple, needed and useful. The bold graphic expression of this app drew appreciation from the judges. A design that will recall a challenging period in New Zealand’s history.

Description:

The evolving COVID-19 pandemic required a responsive, human-centric technology solution to meet the New Zealand Government’s need to deliver on their ‘go hard and go early’ strategy for clearly guiding citizens, stabilising the economy and maintaining a confident tracing programme.

Successful virus control is directly related to the speed at which contact tracers can reach individuals who may have come into contact with COVID-19. It was known early on that the digital solution would hold current contact details, allow users to keep track of locations, and give users control of their data.

Working closely with Ministry teams, the NZ COVID Tracer app and QR code generator were designed, developed and launched in six weeks to empower and protect citizens.
