Description:
This project entailed designing a conceptual boat off of a 12-meter hull. Through intensive digital and physical iterations, we strived to push boundaries and innovate in a field seldom explored. We chose to investigate back-country ski touring amongst one of the most breathtaking and exclusive natural landscapes in the world; the Norwegian Fjords. We aspired to enhance user experiences and redefine how adventure, tradition, and luxury converge.
Drawing inspiration from the ski brand Atomic, our design aimed to embody the company's values of innovation, craftsmanship, and authenticity. The result;
Atomic Backland.
Embark on a multi-day backcountry ski tour through the Norwegian Fjords; catered for those who seek unparalleled comfort and adventure. Functionality and comfort are at the core of the design, ensuring ease and efficiency throughout the trip for guests and crew. Maximised cabin space allows for a variety of onboard quarters including; dining and entertainment, a fully equipped galley/bar, berth/sleeping, bathroom facilities and multiple viewing platforms. A sophisticated dry room offers systematic loading and unloading of passengers and their gear, while a feature lounge boasting expansive panoramic views, provides a warm and inviting space; perfect for unwinding after a long day on the cold slopes and absorbing the breathtaking views of the Fjords.
Form, function, and aesthetics converge, creating a vessel serving purpose and pleasure. Visual references extracted from Atomic’s product line and the bold contours of the Norwegian Fjords inspired the exterior forms of the boat; sleek yet rugged. While the form works to blend with its surroundings, the iconic Atomic red ensures a bold, eye-catching visual contrast. Inside, the integration of Scandinavian design creates a cosy, practical, and elegant space; immersing passengers in an environment reflective of modern Nordic living.
Atomic Backland is ‘more than just a boat.’ It is a sophisticated vessel which pushes the boundaries of design and adventure, offering an unforgettable experience that embodies both elegance and thrill.
