Description:

To house rapidly growing populations, our living spaces must become more compact. However, compact currently comes with compromise. Small bathrooms are functional spaces, not comfortable, which can be particularly disappointing for those transitioning from family homes to smaller spaces.

Rise reimagines space-saving bathing with a transformable bathing area featuring a bath that descends from the ceiling. Utilising vertical space, Rise combines a walk-in shower and a full-size bath. This ceiling-stacked bath concept keeps the floor open for showering, offering luxury in small spaces. To bathe, the bath first lowers to the floor, where a seat/step folds out from the wall, creating a shallow bath ideal for bathing children and pets. This level when combined with the hidden handrail and low step-in height also creates easy accessibility for less mobile users. Once they have stepped into the bath, it then rises around the user, forming a deep full-size bath for a relaxing experience.

Rise maintains standard user flows while removing pain points identified in user research to maximise accessibility. Animations on the touch screen, combined with voice controls, make for an intuitive user experience.

The bath’s unique four-part design allows it to achieve a low profile of 20cm when stacked, which maximises both headroom in the shower and accessibility when getting in the bath. The four layers are waterproofed by compressing silicone gaskets between the layers by electromagnets firing when in position. Additionally, being backlit by fully adjustable LEDs it creates a ceiling feature for increased ambience.

The design of Rise centred on creating a sustainable product with a long lifespan to reduce the environmental effects of the manufacturing process. To achieve this, simple aesthetics and quality materials create a timeless future-focused solution. Accessibility in both use and cleaning was deeply considered throughout the project to ensure a bathroom for all life stages.

Encased in electrically frosted glass walls, the user can control privacy levels. When frosted, ambient light can enter the space. When unfrosted, the bathroom becomes an extension of their larger living space.

Rise is a future-focused design and it features an integrated water-saving system. This closed-loop water system was inspired by the Indian bucket bathing process, which captures and re-uses water, preserving the finite freshwater reserves. The Rise system recycles and sterilises water through micron/particle filtering, followed by a UV sterilisation. Additionally, while bathing, water can be cycled and filtered ensuring clean heated water regardless of the bath’s duration. This connects luxury and sustainability, bringing relaxation to the compact spaces of the future. With Rise, there is no need to compromise.
