Balance is an adaptable support bar created to help individuals confidently and safely use bath-shower combinations, particularly those facing challenges from aging or reduced mobility. Traditional assistive products often feel costly, cumbersome, or medicalised, detracting from the user’s dignity. Balance offers an alternative: a product that performs a vital safety function while integrating seamlessly into the bathroom environment. Extensive user research, physical role-play and expert consultation informed the final design. The bar rotates from a discreet wall position to a fixed 90-degree support arm, providing a secure handhold during entry, exit, and bathing. The faceted timber grip provides tactile comfort, warmth, and improved usability. Balance requires no learning curve and inspires confidence through responsive mechanical feedback. This project demonstrates user-centred design, prototyping, workshop practice, and 3D rendering. It meets a common yet often unspoken need with dignity, subtlety, and care. By supporting independence in daily routines, Balance offers a quietly transformative solution in a space where thoughtful design is too often lacking.
