In 2012 Adapdefy’s founder went from fit, healthy and standing, to paralyzed from the waist down after being hit by a car. This life changing incident triggered a desire to help people adapt and defy.

For as long as people have been using wheelchairs independently, they have struggled to carry things on their lap. It can be extremely embarrassing, frustrating and costly dropping things.

Lapstacker is the world’s first and only retractable carry system for your wheelchair. This simple concept for a tension or retractable strap for holding things on your lap is the result of an extensive R&D project, many many prototypes, a Kickstarter campaign, and eventual manufacturing and production.

From a product design perspective, LapStacker is a gamechanger, increasing independence and confidence. From a customer experience point of view, making the technical simple has enabled the product to be accessible and widely accepted. Lapstacker now has customers in 30 countries and some have said this is “the greatest invention since the wheel.”

This purpose driven project is a story about helping people thrive, and it has rallied many (well over 50 people and counting) to give their time, knowledge and expertise, in a mission to solve a common universal everyday problem for people in wheelchairs everywhere. It has taken an absolute community effort. There are so many people who have been involved in this project and who helped out along the way. They all know who they are. Their efforts have been absolutely golden, and they have helped so many adapt and defy everyday. This is application is for them - to say thank you!
