Description:
Toki is a sculptural lighting range designed and manufactured entirely in Aotearoa New Zealand. It transforms strong, folded metal into refined, elegant forms that interact with light in expressive and unexpected ways. The collection explores how precise geometry and purposeful form can elevate lighting into a medium of spatial storytelling.
The opportunity was to create a range that celebrates local design excellence and explores the creative potential of metal in a new context. The result is a lighting collection that speaks to architects, interior designers, and homeowners seeking something both functionally versatile and visually distinctive.
Inspired by the clean symmetry of origami and the fine structural logic of insect wings, Toki achieves a sense of lightness through deliberate folds, cuts, and proportions. At the same time, its name—Toki, referencing the traditional Māori adze—grounds the collection in deeper meaning. In te ao Māori, the toki represents strength, purpose, and craftsmanship—qualities that are clearly reflected in the range’s bold silhouettes and precise lines. Each light brings that symbolism into architectural spaces, offering both form and presence.
Toki is available in four styles—Horizontal, Small, Large, and Wide—each designed for specific applications. From dramatic feature lighting in large-scale interiors to refined task lighting for more intimate spaces, the range offers flexibility across both residential and commercial environments. Sculptural shades are paired with minimal, streamlined fittings to ensure ease of installation and a clean visual outcome.
Every piece in the range is made in New Zealand, supporting local manufacturing and ensuring a high standard of quality, fit, and finish. The collection is crafted using recyclable materials and follows efficient production processes that reduce waste while maintaining a strong focus on durability and longevity.
Toki has quickly found its place in the market, embraced for its ability to function as both light source and sculptural object. Its design language is bold yet timeless, and its modular adaptability allows it to suit a wide variety of interior settings—from boutique hospitality spaces to high-end homes.
Toki is more than a product—it is a story of material transformation, visual clarity, and purposeful design. It is an exploration of how strong forms can be shaped into something light, meaningful, and made to last.
