Working in the public outdoor furniture scene for more than 20 years, we are used to seeing trends come and go but one thing remains constant. Our clients want bespoke. Bespoke furniture however, particularly in low volume production runs can be an expensive exercise. The H Series brief grew from a need to offer a suite of proprietary seating that can be pulled and stretched by our clients to make it their own, fit each projects unique requirements and meet budget.

Tired of the typical painted grey or steel finishes, we wanted to inject colour, fun and flexibility into the public outdoor furniture scene, to re-energise, reinvigorate and activate our public spaces. The overall form and construction had been rattling around in our heads for quite some time and the initial design process occurred relatively quickly. Although simple in form, every detail has been carefully considered. We have designed the H-series furniture suite to be fully flexible, functional, adaptable, universal, and maintainable.

Flexible:

Our H Series fulfils a gap within the street furniture market, by offering our clients the flexibility to tailor dimensions to suit and provide a wide variety of materials and finishes to meet each project’s unique environmental conditions, aesthetic and budget constraints whilst the overall form and construction techniques remain constant.

Functional:

The H Series suite comprises a seat, bench, perch and picnic set in both a standard and accessible format. The suite conforms to current ASNZS standards for public street furniture. Ergonomics was paramount and particular attention was drawn to the backrest position, angle and height as well as the overall seating and table heights which all remain constant regardless of client adaptions. Prototyping over the course of several months confirmed final dimensions and ironed out any fabrication issues to reduce time and material wastage during production.

Adaptable:

The H Series suite offers complete modularity. Multiple layout configurations can be achieved, allowing our clients to group and nest to suit the projects site and user requirements. The suite is not limited by materials. Corten, aluminium, stainless steel or mild steel, painted, powder coated, blasted or galvanised, the H Series suite can accommodate various materials and finishes to allow our clients to meet required project standards and budget.

Universal:

As a core design requirement, the construction techniques needed to be universal, standardised and without the need for any specialist manufacturing techniques. Walkspace manufacture throughout New Zealand with select suppliers, within the regions in which the product is installed. This not only supports local fabricators but expedites supply and reduces the overall carbon footprint significantly by reducing freight.

Maintainable:

Any product in the public domain will be at some stage in its life, be subject to all manner of abuse. This is a given. We always place emphasis on maintainability to extend the lifespan of our products. All units are surface mounted allowing for quick and easy installation as well as being easily removable for striping and recoating if required. By using high quality FSC Hardwoods in standardised profiles are easily accessible and can be swapped out with ease in the event of any onsite damage without the need for any specialised equipment.
