NZ radiata solid wood and plywood Black stain and oil
The bed is an assembly of five cabinets that appear to hover off the ground. The objective was to create a simple and practical piece that brings a minimalist sophistication to the storage bed category.
Cabinet Bed was originally commissioned for a small bedroom with a need for maximum storage and utility. Each cabinet is a storage unit. The headboard has a hidden compartment for bedside books, a phone and glass of water; and the base cabinets are a set of generously proportioned drawers that open to all 3 sides.
Solid pine legs bind the cabinets together and float a slatted mattress platform over the cabinets with a consistent 36mm gap.
The bed breaks down into its constituent elements to assist transport and installation in small spaces. The only tool required is a single allen key.
Black Mirostain bleeds into the pine to bring a hidden character out in the pine. This is then finished with a matt black oil to preserve and seal the grain.
