Città 12 Tatamu Tables
Design DirectorsDavid Moreland, Nikolai Sorensen
The name Tatamu ('to fold' in Japanese) references the concept of the design, which originated when researching origami structures. The legs are like folded pieces of paper, a form that is weak when flat but gains strength when creased—much like origami.
We wanted to create a table range that had weight and solidity, but was simultaneously light and elegant. We achieved this by incorporating visually clean folds into the legs combined with strong vertical voids. Both of these design details help to break up the solid panels of timber with their intuitive use of space and light.
