Description:

Newtown is a short film that follows a young singers attempts to break out of their shell to perform, while trying to stave off the anxiety and pressures that come with being an artist.

Newtown was inspired by music created by a local artist, with the music serving as the soundtrack to the film. The music is the engine of the story, driving the characters to take different courses of action.

This film was created through collaboration between creative peoples of different disciplines. By working alongside a recording artist, Newtown blurs the lines between short film and visual album. Music plays at different pivotal moments of the film, giving audiences insight into the characters feelings, beyond what is just seen on screen.

Newtown shows the benefits of working to already established source material. While many films are adaptations of books, this film takes an unreleased E.P and turns it into a visual experience that can give exposure to the abilities of artists in different fields.

Creating the story of Newtown came from talking to a multitude of different musicians, all at different stages of development. The final narrative was crafted by three Writers, with the goal of showing the pressures that come from being a performer. This is to show that while musicians are expected to perform to show their work, taking that first step is harder than just getting up and singing.

This film was created to inspire creatives of all ages to back themselves, and not follow a path someone else has laid out for them.
