‘David’ is an animated documentary based on an audio interview with a retirement village volunteer and her reflections on her relationship with a deceased resident. The audio interview forms the base of the film and the inspiration for a rich visual narrative that seamlessly combines 2d and 3d animated images, illustration, graphics and text, taking at times a motion graphics approach to the unfurling of the visual imagery as a counterpoint to, and illustration of the voice-over audio. Using a range of software tools including illustrator, Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint (CSP), After Effects and Maya, the various elements and animation are fully integrated in the final work, a result of much experimentation and iteration in the design and the pre- and post-production pipeline process.
