Want to send something a little risqué to your crush? Something embarrassing to ya mate? Re-live the debauchery from the night before? With Vanish Mode your messages disappear after being read. Pop! They’re gone.

We were approached by Facebook to help them promote a new feature for Facebook and Instagram Messenger called Vanish Mode.

We used a mixed media, vignette based approach that uses both 2D and 3D animation to hero the new feature in an engaging and fun way. We developed a few Art Directions that compliment each other and are appropriate for the young target market. A branded colour palette was then used to link the different shots, creating a unified look that spoke to the product.

We used the UI up front to set the stage, point the user to the product and give them context. From the UI we move to a collection of visual metaphors all themed with the concept of “Vanish”. Examples of embarrassing messages, such as someone serenading out of tune, are used throughout the spot to add humor and give an understanding of when such a feature might come in handy.
