Description:

To seed, to sprout, to seed follows the protagonist, Pip, across two alternating timelines. One when she is around ten years old, she is wild and curious but often goes against the expectations of her community. The other timeline finds her in her late twenties where she has lost that wild spark in favour of anonymity.

The story is set in an invented reality with anthropomorphic animal and insect characters and bizarre social practices. The final publication uses themes of the bizarre and unconventional to create a reading experience where the audience can suspend their expectations of what could happen in the story, push their imagination to accept unusual realities and see themselves in the story rather than simply watch it unfold as a passive bystander.

As the story unfolds, we discover that the source of Pip’s wild magic is a plant growing inside her chest. In an effort to contain it, her body has begun to wrap it tightly in threads. In the end she needs to make a choice – to let the plant grow wild and be her authentic self or cut it at the root so she might blend in with the rest.

To seed to sprout to seed is a call to action to hold onto that childish joy we often lose as adults – a concept my gorgeous Dad instilled in me. During the making of this publication my Dad passed away from a short but mighty battle with cancer; he never got to see the final story. This is dedicated to my legendary Dad, Zane, who taught me how to cultivate a life worth living.
