Description:

“Enby Collective” is a collaborative platform and publication exploring gender identity beyond the binary in modern-day Aotearoa. It is a collective of trans and gender non-conforming artists and creatives across the country.

Currently, across media, there is a real focus on comprehension and education surrounding gender identity. This has led to a world that is prioritising ideology and gender literacy over compassion, love and respect.

The idea for “Enby Collective” came about through the discussions I've had within the trans community. We often talk about how as genderqueer people, we spend so much of our time and energy educating others on our identity, and why people should simply respect us. As a genderqueer person, I’ve always felt a lack of compassion and empathy from the world - people feel as if they must understand trans people to say we shouldn’t be experiencing violence or discrimination.

Noticing this lack of space for celebration inspired me to create something new for my community. The vision for this project was to create a space for uplifting and celebrating trans voices and creativity. A positive space that would strengthen and connect the community.

Issue one of “Enby Collective” is a bespoke print publication that serves as an anthology of trans and gender-queer identity, fashion, art and culture. Creatives from across Aotearoa contributed art, poetry, photography, interviews and more to the first issue.
