‘Waiting for the kettle to boil’ is a tactile, poetic publication that explores slowness in a fast world. Through personal experience and an auto-ethnographic approach during isolation, the book explores the good, the challenging, and the vulnerable nature of slowing down when the world is urging you to speed up. This personal project is a response to my fear of time.

The design process was guided by the principles of Slow Design. Through typographic pacing, tactility, and interactive moments, the book encourages the reader to take their time, allowing a slow read and a quiet moment.

2020 was a year of loss, pain, and anxiety. But at the same time it was one of togetherness, love, and human connection in times of need, highlighting the significance of slowness in the nurturing of human relationships. A homage to 2020, this publication comments on the obligation to live quickly, and how finding balance in the pace of life can nourish relationships, perspective and connectedness.
