Description:

Just a 35-minute ferry ride from Auckland CBD, Waiheke Island’s Mudbrick with its opulent grounds and awe-inspiring views couldn’t feel further from the concrete and steel bustle of the city. Born from a young couple’s dream to do something different with their lives, Mudbrick was purchased as bare land in 1992 with the romantic idea to set up a vineyard (one of Waiheke’s very first), build a house and live off the land.

Now, home to mature sweeping vineyards and idyllic gardens, two restaurants, cellar door, numerous accommodation options and sought-after wedding venues, Mudbrick had well outgrown its original branding and we were approached to refresh their brand identity and website.

It was crucial that our new identity was evocative of the dreamy escapism Mudbrick offered its visitors. We created a concept grounded in the idea of Mudbrick as a ‘modern fairytale’ – an achingly romantic, luxurious escape from day-to-day life at your fingertips.

A whimsical, graceful serif was crafted to become the Mudbrick wordmark, alluding to the cover designs adorning classic European fairytale books, with ‘92 incorporated to affirm the vineyard’s pedigree as one of the first wineries on Waiheke.

The colour palette comprising of soft earthy tones was created to evoke the enchanting atmosphere of Mudbrick itself, and it’s old world European inspired surroundings. Colours were drawn from Mudbrick’s considered decorative touches, the abundant gardens and the iconic sunsets viewed from the terrace, to echo the pastoral elegance of the venue.
