Description:
Queen and Collins, located in Melbourne's CBD, is the redevelopment of the historic 100 Queen Street site.
The ground experience is defined over three levels, creating a lively and richly textured series of open-air lanes, courtyards and intimate squares' campiellos' - a city within a city. The building's neo-gothic character is amplified in the architecture and interior palette, which features marble, terrazzo and coloured glass, drawing upon Venice as a trading city, and city of imagination balanced with pathways illuminated by pink lanterns.
The precinct wayfinding signage takes reference from Venice and the city's signage, with signs located at laneway corners, creating a sense of discovery and intrigue as users move throughout the precinct. The use of a framing device was developed to both contain directional messages and reveal the architectural materiality behind, giving the sense of a 'light touch'.
Bronze materiality was used throughout the signage system, reflecting the architecture, to seamlessly integrate with the space and the building's neo-gothic aesthetic.
The project extended to the office fit out for Levels 1 & 2, which adopted the precinct signage directional wayfinding to help visitors navigate throughout the co-working space.
Heritage Interpretation signage celebrates Queen and Collins unique and rich history, continues the theme of discovery, and extends the laneway experience. Images are UV printed in monotone with etch and fill images and text to bronze panel.
The outcome celebrates the building as a landmark within the Melbourne's CBD.
