Description:

Commissioned by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, Yirranma Place is the first purpose-built philanthropy centre in Australia. Yirranma Place will be home to the Paul Ramsay Foundation’s new social enterprise incubator, an initiative that aims to grow the pool and impact of social enterprises and for-purpose organisations working to disrupt disadvantage in Australia.
We were commissioned to create the naming, brand identity and guidelines and signage for this incredible initiative.

Yirranma (yeer-rahn-ma) is a Gadigal word meaning “many create”; synonymous with the intended purpose of the building and the community it aims to create.

Yirranma Place is a place for growth; a place for regeneration, a place for good and a place to inspire others to do good. Being a heritage building, signage interventions were minimal and sympathetic to the building’s history (aged brass, granite and sandstone).

The influence of First Nation’s peoples extends throughout the building. The naming system for the rooms was intended to instil a sense of layered identities, histories and memories. Travelling through the building, visitors encounter art and welcoming stories of place. The entry proudly features an 8m acknowledgement of the traditional owners, the Gadigal people.
