Description:

Onehunga is an evolving heritage neighbourhood. From humble beginnings as a village built by pioneer settlers, this place is undergoing carefully managed change. Clubs are places where people with similar interests and values gather together. They become places for socialising and sharing stories or just belonging. From rugby and sports to knitting and books, art, cars, wine and everything in between.

The Onehunga Mall Club (O.M.C) is a new 102-apartment complex built on the site of the old Onehunga’s Workingmen’s Club. This is a place where carefully considered homes are designed to intersect with everyday life in an evolving heritage neighbourhood that feels the way New Zealand used to be.

The axminster carpet pattern found in the old club rooms have been interpreted by the design team in collaboration with architects Ashton Mitchell and developers Lamont & Co – who have specified the geometric pattern cast along the flanking concrete shear walls of the apartment building. This further express the clubs heritage and is a reminder of tall stories once told in a bar at 158 Onehunga Mall.
