Description:

Recent years, have meant we have all become reliant on media for not only information, but confirmation of our beliefs, tribal alignment and many more tumultuous side effects. Paired with this has been a shrinking of funding and restriction of the arts. Despite this adversity, Silo saw 2024 as the year of return, not hiatus, and an opportunity to make a statement.

Our aim was to put something into the world that invited a reaction and created spectacle.

So, we challenged viewers with one assertion;
“You are the media you consume.”

We know the media we consume daily has a direct effect on the ideas, values, and words we are exposed to.

The media consumption theory states that consumers use media to satisfy specific needs or desires.

So, as contributors to the theatre format we captured figurative imagery of what you can expect to absorb in our 2024 shows.

Our challenge for season release was anonymity. we solved this by playing on the mouth as a central portal of human consumption.

Whether humour or disgust, the close up imagery has been constructed to evoke a visceral reaction.

There were two moments to consider for marketing: season release and show release.

Our challenge for season release was anonymity. So instead of covering faces, we zoomed in.
Each mouth, represents one of four shows and is paired with a wide image that gets revealed in the brochure and show marketing.

Scattergun: After the Death of Rūaumoko. Consumption of whenua in an urban location.
Scenes of a Climate Era. Consumption of plastic in a landfill location.
A Slow Burlesque. A femme/masc reflection in an underground dressing room location.
Camping. Consumption of “gay bacon” in a forest location.

The history of Silo Theatre’s visual branding has always been provocative. We wanted to continue to arouse viewers with curiosity and intrigue in a way that honoured each artist and their work.

We held relationships directly with the creators and performers of shows to generate visuals relative to the 2024 season.

Silo Theatre returns to the stage with a bold assertion; You are the media you consume.
