Description:

As a nation and a species, we have grown to rely heavily on cars as our primary means of transport. There are currently more than 1.4 billion cars throughout the world, with more than 100 million new cars being produced each year.

But we don’t all need cars. Research suggests that only 28% of car trips are essential, and the average car spends 95% of its life not in use. The single best way for consumers to reduce their transport emissions, is to view transport as a suite of services, rather than a single product. There are a multitude of transport services available that produce fewer emissions than a car, and cost consumers less over their lifetime.

If these services already exist, what's stopping people from using them? The issue with having so many amazing choices, is that it's too hard to choose! Should I use a Mevo? A Flamingo? An Uber? An Ola? Which one will be cheapest? Which one will be fastest? Which one is the best for the planet? In the time it takes you to ask all these questions, you could’ve unlocked your car and started driving…

So how do you make doing the right thing quick and easy, while creating moments of joy for frustrated users?

Plott brings all of New Zealand's alternative transport services into one easy to use product. Instead of downloading 10 different apps to try and find the fastest ride across town, users have all of their transport options in one place. Users can compare rides based on their emissions data, cost, comfort or speed and unlock them from within the app. Not only can consumers make more informed transport choices, they can also see how their choices stack up. Plott showcases how your personal emissions generation compares to the New Zealand average, and rewards users who make an effort to keep their emissions low.

From a functional perspective, Plott was designed to be as quick and easy to use as possible. The app is directly competing with the convenience that a car possesses - therefore, Plott needed to be quick and free from friction. The onboarding process was simplified to allow accounts from existing transport providers to be used. This means that the account details you currently use for Uber, Ola or Mevo can be used to get you set up with Plott. From there, it's as simple as searching for your destination, or selecting a nearby service from the map.

From a visual perspective, Plott was designed to make a bland transactional experience more lively and exciting. Typically the commute (or any process of getting from a-to-b) is merely a necessity. Plott aimed to make this process a memorable one - to make the trip feel like part of the plan, rather than just an enabling factor. Plott has a whimsical personality - the combination of a bright colour scheme and the clay hand motif combine to make Plott feel human and inviting.
