Description:

Encouraging women to gain autonomy over their bodies

Hermoonatek, directly translated into Your Hormones, is a mobile application that aims to be every Arabic-speaking woman’s companion through hormonal fluctuations along different reproductive stages.

The application aims to bridge the gap between medical information and public awareness by providing simple, easy-to-grasp information in regards to female hormonal processes. The application is designed to aid in the understanding of complex health processes through four different features: an hormones gallery, FAQs, glossary and a journal, allowing the user to engage in a personalized, educative experience. All of which are visually and linguistically dissected into common societal stereotypes, Egyptian dialect and humor as well as elaborative anatomical illustrations to ease understanding and allow women to properly navigate their bodies.

Motivated by the lack of medical research on the female body as well as the active neglect of female health complaints, Hermoonatek encourages women to gain autonomy over their bodies by allowing them to keep track of different changes their bodies undergo without fear of judgement or being subjected and exposed to misinformation. Hermoonatek allows women to think critically about how their bodies work, rather than ingesting false information found online, or making a seemingly "shameful" trip to a health professional just to get their complaints dismissed.

The concept of this application is the product of extensive research on the medical bias women have faced that is prominent through (1) evidence of lack of proper medical research on the female body, leading to (2) the provision of false information in regards to female-related health issues, which resulted in (3) the misdiagnosis of female-related health issues and has actively contributed into the treatment of most female-related health issues with synthetic hormones that have been proven to mask symptoms for graver underlying issues. That being said, this application allows women to take a step back and understand how their bodies work in the first place & how can hormones contribute to most bodily processes, related & un-related to reproductive issues.

Important Note: This application is for information only and is not created to diagnose female-related health issues. It is merely a tool to allow women to understand patterns of their bodies and how it works. This application does not claim any accuracy in the diagnosis or treatment of health conditions.
