Giants of Africa is a nonprofit organisation empowering, educating and enriching the lives of African youth through basketball. Founded by Nigerian-Canadian Masai Ujiri (president of basketball operations for NBA team Toronto Raptors) in 2003, the organisation strives to make a lasting impact both on and off the court as they travel the African continent hosting basketball camps and community outreach events. Giants of Africa is committed to creating the infrastructure needed to support growing communities, foster basketball talent and inspire future leaders to dream big.

The existing website had become dated and was no longer serving this vision, the brand or its stakeholder objectives effectively. Along with its UX and UI issues, the site’s information architecture prevented a seamless user and administrative experience and required consolidation.

Inklab developed a new website for Giants of Africa to serve the needs of its diverse stakeholders. The new site consolidates and integrates content to deliver a refreshed user experience that reflects the organisation’s story, offerings and impact. In addition to the organisation’s corporate overview, we developed custom post types for each of the activity types including camps, courts, community engagement and events which included extensive filtering options and automatic cross-linking. Users can now access content from tailored pages which cater for campers, coaches, coordinators, corporate partners and supporters, partner organisations, volunteers, staff, alumni and the international basketball community.

A significant feature we developed for the site was a custom interactive map with various view types and filtering options to showcase the archive of activities Giants of Africa has conducted. To highlight the vibrancy of the communities Giants of Africa works with, we developed custom patterns and country-specific themes to showcase the activities across various locations.
