Description:

In a bid to enhance the awe-inspiring black Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton named Peter, we were commissioned to create an augmented reality (AR) experience at Auckland Museum. This marked the museum’s first foray into AR, presenting a remarkable opportunity to astonish and captivate visitors with life-sized dinosaurs hiding in plain sight.

To ensure a diverse and visually striking experience, we selected six dinosaurs based on their size, shape, and compatibility with specific locations within the museum. Each location was strategically chosen to accommodate the necessary scale for visitors to marvel at the full-sized dinosaurs. Plinths equipped with QR codes were placed at each location, prompting visitors to scan and unlock the thrilling surprise.

The opportunity to take photos or record videos next to the virtual dinosaurs enhanced the shareability of the experience on social media, and the ability to track interactions added value to the museum’s insights and visitor analytics.
