Description:

Watercare, the provider of water supply and wastewater services to 1.7 million Aucklanders, recognised the pressing need to find innovative solutions to protect and manage the city's water resources in the face of rapid population growth and climate change challenges.

In response, Watercare embarked on a project to deliver enhanced digital self-service through a user-friendly app. The purpose was to empower customers by providing them with timely insights into their water usage, fostering water efficiency, and alerting them to potential leaks. By leveraging smart water meter data and timely insights through a mobile app experience, Watercare is driving a culture of sustainability among customers.

The core concept behind the Watercare app was to utilise a human-centred design approach to deliver a highly engaging and informative user experience. The native app's creative and original approach aligned with Watercare's goal of encouraging customers to be proactive in their water consumption habits.

By empowering users with timely insights and automated prompts, the app enables Watercare to drive its digital-first strategy forward, continuously improve the customer experience, and foster a waterwise future for Auckland.
