Description:

Authsignal is a New Zealand-based startup helping businesses fight the rising issue of digital fraud. The company launched this year and has recently closed its first round of fundraising.

The idea for Authsignal was born from founder Justin Soong’s frustrations as a CTO and Developer implementing security features. Current solutions are complicated, time consuming, and expensive. If implemented incorrectly, the consequences can be catastrophic. Many of the world's largest organisations have fallen victim to user accounts being hacked, resulting in sensitive details being exposed and money stolen.

Authsignal aims to empower businesses to protect user accounts by enabling them to implement security features faster and easier than ever before. Businesses can customise and drop Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) technology into their existing products in hours.

A key focus has been on democratising digital security and giving smaller businesses the same protection as larger players. Authsignal achieves this by offering a free account tier and scaling enterprise pricing based on a business’s monthly active users (MAU).

Authsignal has three main touchpoints: the marketing website, the admin portal, and the white label MFA experience.

The marketing site is the louder, more confident of the three. Its purpose is to introduce Authsignal and enable businesses to discover how it can help them.

The admin portal is the powerhouse operating behind the scenes, where Developers can configure and customise security features. To do this requires no code, and Authsignal offers extensive documentation to guide them through the process. Once implemented, businesses can use insights to identify suspicious patterns and prevent fraud.

The white label MFA experience is the least opinionated touchpoint. It is unbranded so businesses can add their own logo and colours before dropping it into their own product. MFA is the first of many white label features that will be available to businesses in future. Authsignal has figured out the complexity and edge cases so our customers don’t have to.

Authsignal’s visual identity sits across all three touchpoints. The core brand values are trust and innovation. Soft gradients calm users throughout what can be a stressful process. A cohesive yet flexible design system provides consistency across the user experience.

The design approach was explorative, collaborative and people focused. We worked closely with the founder, Justin, to learn from his experiences and create a product that is appealing to both investors and users. Qualitative and quantitative research enabled us to identify personas, understand user journeys, and create solutions around these. Accessibility and usability were also key considerations; we have and will continue to run frequent usability testing to ensure the product resonates.

The result is a beautiful and highly user-friendly experience that is different to anything currently available on the market. Authsignal’s purpose is to prevent fraud before it happens. We stay ahead of the rapidly evolving world of fraud and security, so our customers can sleep peacefully.
