Description:

Airport Dad is a short animated documentary that explores the quirky, everyday dynamics of a real-life couple through a comedic lens. Built from a candid interview, the film responds to the question, “What do you notice about each other that no one else does?” The result is a series of skit-style vignettes that reveal the small, specific habits and observations that make their relationship unique.

The film draws inspiration from YouTube storytellers like Jaiden Animations and TheOdd1sOut, blending fast-paced humour with heartfelt sincerity. It uses bold character expressions, punchy timing, and a playful visual style to bring the couple’s stories to life. The animation is expressive and energetic, capturing both the chaos and charm of real relationships.

Created as a tribute to the couple ahead of their wedding, Airport Dad was screened at the celebration and later selected for the Wellington Animation Film Festival. It also marked a milestone for the creator, who used industry-standard tools for the first time to bring a childhood dream to life.

At its heart, Airport Dad is a celebration of love, humour, and the beauty of the mundane. It shows how animation can elevate everyday stories and how storytelling can connect us through laughter, recognition, and shared experience.
