Young New Zealanders are anxious about their futures. The weight of expectation, the burden of getting it right, the challenge of going it alone plays heavily on their minds. More than ever, they wanted community, kinship, connection from a career. Yet they didn’t see NZDF as a place where they’d find the support – and the people – to help them achieve great things.

JOIN A TEAM YOU CAN COUNT ON proved that in NZDF, nothing exceptional is ever done alone. From smaller moments to bigger missions, the film captures the power of people coming together to achieve the epic every day. Featuring real NZDF teams of every size, shape and scale – to show what can be achieved by two, to two hundred.

Leveraging NZDF’s rich collection of imagery and footage, the film was crafted exclusively from authentic moments of Navy, Army and Air Force teams in action, from the plains of Waiouru to the ice shelves of Antarctica. Moments are united through an animation treatment designed to capture a sense of memory and place – an editorial lens observes each scene; people are brought to the fore; backgrounds become textured and dreamlike. Sound design is dynamic and immersive, to make you feel like you’re right in there with each team.

All in, the film features hundreds of real NZDF personnel, across dozens of locations, united as one team you can count on.
