Description:

‘The Snowman’ is a short film about a lonely young woman living in a foreign country who has lost her identity as she is unable to adapt to a new environment, causing her to isolate herself from the world she finds herself in. The film explores this character’s emotions through the use of CGI and visual effects in the form of a realistically rendered snowman figure which is both a metaphor for her isolated situation and a manifestation of her mental state.
As the central character and snowman do not speak, the narrative is carried by silent performance and visual storytelling. Visual elements are used to express and underscore the characters’ emotions, including cinematography, colour, lighting, composition, and editing. Using these elements, this film explores how to effectively communicate the characters’ feelings and emotions throughout the film.
Technically the film aims for a seamless photorealistic integration of digital elements with live action footage, including a realistic procedural snow texture created for the snowman character.
