Description:

Capstone assignment.

For our final assignment of the entire degree, we finish on a project which sits above the rest—A final step to finishing it all off. The title comes from the last addition and crowning piece in architecture. Similar to the concrete assignments, we have free reign to create something of our choosing.

In this project, ‘From me to you’ deconstructs correspondence to explore the ‘context of communication.’

Handwritten letters are a chance to observe honest, personal connections, in a way that is raw and authentic. FMTY evaluates and interprets words in their environments, and the themes they portray. Through the written word we’re able to share and receive. We reach out, we sympathise, we release, we express. There are lessons in history, and there’s learning in words. There’s an art to communication. FMTY wishes to showcase this and to experiment with how one perceives it all.

FMTY process.

‘From me to you’ is a publication in poster design, which evaluates and experiments with the written word. To complete my final assignment, my process included several steps. I wanted to make this post to briefly showcase the work behind the work, how I developed a course of action, and how I achieved some of my final looks.

I started by delving through a large assortment of letters, mostly all hand-written. Once I had an extensive range, I selected certain statements I wanted to explore or break down, words that stood out to me for whatever reason. I would then choose to stick with or stray from the connotations of these words, incorporating or excluding related themes. This was all to create something visual from this content, something new. Finally, I approached each poster or each letter individually, choosing different directions for each.
