Description:

Newzican Magazine - A music mag for the music-mad, is an Aotearoa music magazine that aims to provide an in-depth exploration of the Aotearoa music scene, artists, and the context in which they exist. The magazine highlights and showcases a diverse range of talented local musicians and the passionate, determined people who make other aspects of the scene thrive.

With the closure of print companies like Bauer Media NZ and iconic music publications like Rip It Up, lasting negative effects on the music scene because of Covid-19, and the increasing cost of creating print projects, we identified a severe lack of NZ-focused, in-depth, exciting, contemporary music media. The vision of Newzician Magazine is to create a unique print publication that entertains and educates while forming an uplifting space where creatives feel celebrated and supported.

Issue One is a 124 page coffee-table style magazine. It features 13 stories with content ranging from emerging artists, relevant established artists, opinion pieces, record labels, audio engineers, and venues, which are represented in both written and visual formats.

This project was extremely rewarding and incredible to be able to create a proper magazine and support the Aotearoa music industry after the Covid-19 pandemic.
