Nga Purapura demonstrates the effective transportation of cultural concepts and values from brief to built form. Principles like Kaitiakitanga have moved beyond rhetoric and aesthetic into infrastructural and material solutions. The sculptural yet functional centrepiece of the design - the kākano (seed), derived from a guiding whakatauaki (proverbial saying) provides an enticing visual and conceptual touch-point in the design. Ngā Purapura exhibits the value of meaningful engagement between designers and client.
